If you are a Yankee fan (not the baseball team) but the magazine, then you may have read their latest ‘travel’ article on Middlebury, Vermont.
Middlebury is a great New England town. Call it quintessential, but that description is used so often. So, I will quote Julia Clancy, the author of the Yankee article.

“A small town that’s big on farmers, artisans, and academics comes gift-wrapped between the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain.”

Yes, the setting is ideal with the mountains and the lake, but the downtown is what I remember most from our visits. Every pocket and corner tell a story. Not just new pop up stores but time honored established and cherished ones too.

Every downtown should have a bakery, in my opinion. Middlebury has the Otter Creek Bakery. Established for over 35 years. A gathering place for breakfast, lunch or a quick visit to pick up your order. Long time owners experiment with new ideas, what every good business should do. Keep them coming back for the old and new.

Every downtown should also have a bookstore. The Vermont Book Shop. “A Main Street institution for 70 years.” Another cozy gathering place to feed the soul.

Towns like Middlebury attract creative and passionate people. Individuals that want to settle in a community that embraces their creativity, and a town that supports them. From craft beer to hand crafted pewter jewelry to a long established and cherished country inn.
