The Inn at Ormsby Hill is a premier New England bed and breakfast in the popular destination of Manchester in southern Vermont. The Inn is a member, by invitation only, of Select Registry: Distinguished Inns of North America and current owners have made significant upgrades to a property that has been lovingly renovated over several decades with attention to detail and a focus on preserving the historic integrity of the physical plant.
The Inn is one of the oldest homes in Manchester, dating back to 1764, and it is reported that Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Lincoln, frequented the property in the 1880’s. The property was converted to a five room Bed and Breakfast in 1987 and in the fall of 1995 an addition was added to bring the total guest room count to 10. While the property’s five original guest rooms have a particular personality and significant historic merit, all of the Inn’s guest rooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed.
Two sets of impressive historic iron gates welcome guest to The Inn at Ormsby Hill and carry a weight in keeping with the history and quality of the overall asset. Upon entering the Inn, guests will be greeted in either of two comfortable and charming common areas. They include a living room and gathering room each with wood burning fireplaces. Just off the gathering room is the Inn’s dining room, a large conservatory with windows on three sides that light this grand space throughout the day. The dining room overlooks the expansive landscaped grounds, perennial gardens and the Green Mountains beyond. French doors lead from the dining room to the slate patio where guests can gather or dine in warmer weather. Just beyond the patio, a gazebo offers a private space for guests.
One of the guest rooms is located on the first floor with the entrance off the central gathering room. In addition, there are two guest rooms on this level with exterior entrances and decks that offer a sense of arrival. A grand staircase off the gathering room leads to the remaining seven spacious guest rooms.
The Inn’s kitchen includes a Hobart dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, ice machine and is centered around a large picture window where Innkeepers can view the changing Vermont seasons while honing their culinary craft. An office area makes menu planning a breeze. Any Innkeeper will be pleased with this spacious work area which has been updated by current owners to improve functionality. This space leads to the Inn’s expansive basement with marble floors and access to the Inn’s primary systems. The kitchen also leads to the Inn’s dedicated laundry facility and then out to a boiler room and storage space including a one-bay garage currently used for storage.
The owner’s quarters include a large 22’ X 27’ cathedral ceiling post and beam open living space, with an attached bedroom and bath and ample closet space. This area is both private and convenient with direct access to the Inn’s entry area / gift shop and, through the bedroom, the Innkeeper’s dedicated office space which looks to the back patio.
This exceptional offering is available for $2,250,000 and is offered exclusively by the Vermont Broker of Record: Barrett & Valley Associates, Inc.
