When travelers to New England think of a destination location their thoughts may lead them to the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. A place where history and art come together and tell a remarkable story. The Berkshires-America’s Cultural Resort tells such a story.
What comes to mind when you think of the Berkshires?
Art Museums–Historic Landmarks–Live Music and Dance–Farms and Gardens–Farm to Table Restaurants
Many destination location towns have all the above. So, what makes the Berkshires stand out? Here are some brief examples.
The Norman Rockwell Museum is probably one of the best known and loved museums in New England. Rockwell’s paintings depict the historic small town charm of this area. Who wouldn’t want to spend time in a Rockwell painting, at least for a short visit? Think ‘Back to the Future’!
Tanglewood is also one of the best known and loved music venues in New England. A seat in the ‘barn’ or on the lawn with a picnic is a treat that visitors and locals enjoy many times over. The artists it attracts are world class.
Jacob’s Pillow Dance is a National Historic Landmark. It is home to America’s longest running dance festival. A real treasure. After the summer there are year-round programs at the Pillow.
Edith Wharton’s former estate, The Mount, is a garden lover’s destination. Three acres of formal gardens but there is so much more. Shakespeare & Co performances, music concerts, tours of the estate home.
Berkshires have a deeply rooted food culture. People do travel for food! “The fields and farms of the Berkshires are more than a scenic landscape, they produce the tastiest seasonal offerings that give guests a taste of place and an opportunity to taste the Berkshires.”
These Berkshire treasures are not places to visit only once.
New artists and new exhibits are fresh and new every season. That is why guests are frequent flyers to the Berkshires and the Inns they stay at.
The B&B Team features the Brook Farm Inn in Lenox and The Inn at Stockbridge for sale. These Inns have lovely stories to tell. The Brook Farm Inn and The Inn at Stockbridge are original Berkshire ‘summer cottages’ that have been welcoming guests for over a century. First as seasonal summer homes where artists and the gentry came to visit the country from the city. Then eventually transformed to popular bed and breakfasts. Berkshire history lives in these inns, as the saying goes, ‘if walls could talk’.
“A good story helps with value perception and is generally reflected in your online reviews.” Vikram Singh.
So true! From recent Trip Advisor reviews:
“Located minutes from Tanglewood and within a short walk to Lenox village, it is convenient to many of the Berkshire cultural sites. The inn is tastefully decorated, the buffet breakfast is delicious and the innkeepers are gracious, accommodating and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Check out the rooms in the Carriage House which overlooks the beautiful backyard complete with pool, umbrella table and shaded reading areas. Brook Farm Inn will not disappoint!”
“My two sisters and I stayed here (The Inn at Stockbridge) for a late summer Berkshires getaway. We were greeted warmly. We were able to tour museums, mansions and gardens and still get back most afternoons for the wine and cheese receptions. This is a perfect location, we saw the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, which was only 12 minutes away. We also enjoyed the “Merry Wives of Windsor” at Shakespeare & Co with dinner afterwards in Lenox at Prime Italian Steakhouse. Innkeepers are superior hosts and their staff was professional and extremely accommodating. Overall, five stars!!!”
“People prefer to give their business to someone who cares about them. It’s your greatest differentiating factor, and you should use it at every opportunity.” Vikram Singh.
This is what innkeeping is all about. B&B’s, historic country inns and small boutique hotels are the best at providing this valuable experience.
